A case for tea time

The following is an open letter to our principal....

We the teachers of this Sri Lankan adventure appeal to you to consider a daily tea time.  We believe this is a solid idea because:

1.). Tea is delicious.  (Especially from Sri Lanka....and don't worry-we are bringing a lot home!)

2.)Tea time will foster student independence.  Teachers would leave their classrooms for minutes (if not hours) to enjoy this delicious treat each day!  This will provide students with plenty of opportunities to show their Eagle Pride.  I'm sure we could even create a "looks like, sounds like, feels like" chart together!

And finally.....
Reason #3:

3.). Teachers will have the opportunity to foster and build long-lasting relationships with one another.  We are a staff who never have any fun together, nor do we socialize enough to know who lives "on the other side of the wing."  Think of this as your opportunity to help us grow.

Think about it.  We will await your response in August!

To My World Travelers; Debbie, Lexie and Erica

I appreciate your thoughtful suggestion regarding Daily Tea Time. I also realize that you have gained much perspective and insight from your travels so it’s important that I truly listen to your suggestions.

1). I have no doubt that the tea from Sri Lanka is delicious. No doubt. It’s also quite the healthy beverage, so we would also be contributing to the health of the staff. Tea is also said to be calming. This calming effect would not only positive impact our teachers but would also likely ripple to our students and families as well. This really may be a great idea…

2). I also agree that it’s essential for our staff to have time to bond and connect. This contributes to a positive school culture and climate. You also make a fair point that the primary wing and intermediate wing could socialize more. This is really shaping up to be a great suggestion…

3). Daily Tea Time for teachers is very important could foster student independence. That said, leaving students unsupervised for 5 minutes, 10 minutes or even hours is a deal breaker. I fully support Tea Time before or after school but not during school hours leaving students unsupervised.

Good try ladies. Now wrap up there and come home to us. We miss you.

    Fondly-
    Principal Sonnek

  2. Oh, come on principal Sonnek. This could be a nation wide trend you would be starting and it would be cheaper than caribou! It could foster independance and ... ok, before or after school it is. You are right.
